Autolite Regulator

Can't find a saddle mount regulator for the Neg ground Autolite Gen's on the SC's & DC's. Lots of 6V saddle mounts for the Delco-Remy's. My research says that polarity of the tractor doesn't really matter as long as you polarize the regulator. However, one has pre-mag'd fields, & the other uses juice from the battery to mag the fields, which may be the problem. That being said, will a 6V regulator that says "for Delco-Remy" work on the Autolite systems? Thanks.

John, I use the regulators off the shelf at farm supply stores that say they are for 6 volt, And they seem to come in the base mount or a saddle mount. Actually just picked 1 up last weekend so I can stop hand cranking the VAC. We have tractors on the farm with both generators and I've never bought a special regulator for either of them.

Jimmy: Do they work as well on the Autolites as they do on the Delco's? Wear out quicker? One caution I was told about, was that if you use a regulator designed for Pos ground in a Neg ground situation, it will not last as long.

John, the one I got the other day was marked "POS ground" but most are marked for either. I've had some on for over a decade without problems yet. The one I replaced the other day was originally controlled by the light switch. Put a standard regulator on it, changed the wiring and works good.
