hydralic cylinder

anyone ever seen a case hydralic cylinder? i think i have one. it came with a 494 corn planter i bought this spring. it was covered in dirt and grease. after i washed it off i saw what looked like case implement green and flambeau red on it. i think i saw eagles cast into it too

I have a dozen or so of them oldest double acting implement cylindersI have are from bail hitches on SC/DC tractors, I have never sen one with implement green before, would be interesting to see a pic if you can cnt

I agree. The oldest ones we have do have a depth control on them and are about 4" in diameter. Never seen any green ones. The lifting bail ones are a short stroke cylinder not the 8" stroke.

good to know as I have never measured the bail cylinders, the next oldest I have, have the mechanical depth stop also I think I have 3 1/2" as well as 4" most of the ones I have are late "30 and 70" series with the hyd lock depth stops all of these are 4" I even have two NOS barrels for these late ones cnt

here it is! with the VAC in the background of course!

The early Case cylinders had the mechanical depth control and were available either as 3&1/4" bore or later a 4" version. They were great cylinders, although eventually the grooves on the depth latches would round off and then slip. I have rebuilt several. I have been told by a former dealer that they were manufactured at the Burlington backhoe factory.

Bradley, A little history as I know it. Had an Uncle worked in Wichita at Cessna (must been a pretty savvy guy) died In1972. Cessna made a run of cylinders for Case, For some reason they didn't work or work right so they went to the scrap heap, the engineers couldn't figure the problem out so I was told. Uncle Glen asked for a couple of them, snuck them back inside and fixed the problem. I can remember Dad had one on the 3-14 AW plow he pulled with the DC it was a 4 inch. When Dad traded the DC in on the 730 the dealer knew the story and swapped him a brand new cylinder for the old 4 inch.
