Most Memorable Case Tractor drive

I saw the first Case you drove and mine was the 870 hauling grain.......But my most exciting and memoriable drive was after I got the 51 DC running for my Grandpa after he gave it to me and told me I could have it as long as I got it running before he died........so the day I drove it off the trailer in his yard with him watching me and that grin on his face told me he was a happy man (he rarely showed emotion).......It was his first new tractor when he was 26yo........so my most memorable drive on a case was bringing his "baby" home for him to see.......and he died3 months later.......I miss that old man.

Bout 4 years go i showed up to a new tractor ride, just before it stated and ready to leave. I unload a Case 430 LCK [Low Center King] gas. it has 10 inch wheels in the front and 16.1 rears diamaond tread. A couple of fellows runnin the deal ask, ''how fast does this little thing go''?
I says "i dunno, maybe 10, maybe 8". Oh Snap,they say, they set up for at least 16. Not happy, they but me first, like a pace tractor. Got em all strung out in a 1/2 mile or so, babyin it around 9 mph. It was time to let it rip..and it went 23 mph! I had the fastest tractor there. I had a blast.

I love doing that with the 430T. The only one who can stay with me is my cousin on his 300RN. We have a couple of local showes that we drive the tractors to, and that is always fun.

My favorite moment with a CASE tractor is about a 52 VAC. My grandfather had given me and my brother a VAC each. Mine was a 52 and my brother"s was a 51, and both had the optional 34 in rubber. We had rescued them from a fencerow and my brother restored them as an FFA project. When we had them finished and went to our first show with them my grandfather who had emphazema and was on oxygen sat in his car at the end of the grandstands to see his tractors come through the parade. Sadly that was the last time he was able to go anywhere before he died. I do not have the tractor any longer because I sold it to a kid who wanted to start showing tractors. It was my way of doing for someone else what grandpa had done for me. This kid still brings the tractor to the shows and makes sure to let me know it is there.

My most memorable ride was our wedding day with every couple riding a Case tractor from church to the reception. It certainly got a lot of attention. Don

My most memorable was the day my neighbor purchased a "new" to him 4890 tractor. He asked me if I would like to do Fall field work with it. I had a smile 40 acres wide. I loved that good ol' beast. Great tractor.

I was about 6or 7 yrs old when this happened. I grew up in Newell SD Dad had about 320 acre north of Newell. Dad worked nights at Homestake mine in lead SD . My oldest sister was driving dads DC 4 with mower on. Middle sister was driving the VAC with hay rake. I was on the left side older sis stoped to open gate middle one forgot where clutch was. WE made it up and onto the back tires on DC before I could reach down and push in clutch by hand. Don't think Middle sis drove much after that Dale

winning the 7000 class at 1980 Lanesville Heritage Weekend Tractor pull..took the feed grinding tractor there .Pops 51 DC had only 2 gallon of gas been stripped naked of fenders , cultivaterlift , battery , and sported tin wheels to barely slide into the 5500 antique class ,had to do a pull off in 5500 and got 2nd place to oliver 88 ..NEXT WAS 7000 Class,, and i had to get a crew together to load the DC of fenders ,cast iron front tires ,battery , gas , cultivater lift , 500 lbs of weight on rear and another 400 in suitcase weights on front cultivator bracket bars . NITE HAD COME .with truck lites family and friends pitched in,, while working quikly ,I could here the Oliver 88 Growling to a stop,and looked up to see its stopp point.JD 60 did a little less , couple M IHc were almost embarassing , but 1 Hot M was really pullin well and even went further than the 88 ,. the flaggger hollered "if you are pulling, last call "It had only been 15minutes since we left the track ,.. all the bolts were not tite , nevertheless ,we hitched up and drawed up slack..60 percent throttle 1st gear . flag dropped ,i stabbed the hand clutch , and that 51DC bounced the front wheels and moaned and moved down the track some 20 feet when i opened that Ol Gents throttle up ,the governor went full just like a good DC does ,and stayed there , THE DC Really Leaned into the pull , since the front was on the track yet , i pushed the seat back, and transfered my weight as the OL Gents matching Goodyrs wrinkled and equally dug the track .about the place where a lot of the pullers had lost out the 51 DC had the front up ,, and was cat clawing for all it had ..i passed the oliver stop point,,the fenders were slipping back on the axles and i pulled them up , while patting the left brake to keep the DC focused , still had a nother 20 ft or soto beat the fancy hot M and by now ...that
Ol Gent was starting to loosegrip and the motor was straining and putting forth hard labor with each long stroke ,the straightpipe just minutes before was cool to the touch , Now was beginning to glow red HOT , the frontend was up about a foot and that DC was WAGGLING its frontwieghts back and forth to leverage every inch as the rpms were lugging down ,....and then it was over, We were flagged, We had stopped forward movement and I yanked the clutch and the tires touched ground for the 1st time in 60 feet ,and cut the throttle to half, Thats when i heard Pop Holering from the stands and all the folx clapping .. istuck the DC in 3rd and rolled off knowing we beat everyone but still not sure ..sure enuf we won by some 6feet ,, beating out that purty hot IHC M that would eventually throw a rod because of extreme revving ,that was 33 yrs ago, Pops DC is waiting in the barn tonite , But Dad is now behind the church .. as strong as iron is ,. it still dont have a memory of flesh and blood

riding with Dad on the 830 com with a narrow front and hub duals to help the neighbor as he had their 730, LA and 8N ford buried in the mud, the 830 extracted all of them!

well written story.good thing you said that you won the 7,000ld class first. because I was afraid you were going to say you got disqualified because a weight fell off.SWEET!

most places you would get the DQ for that and I don't mean Dairy Queen!
