Tank Heater?

I have a 1500 tank heater on my 830 diesel. It is plumed so the heated water enters the manifold on the back end of the engine, which would be fine but it opens the thermostat and heats the radiator before it heats the heads or the block. Is this the best place for it or should I plumb the hot water to go into the plug on the side of the block?

At the back of the engine water manifold should be ideal. I wonder if your thermostat is defective or partially open allowing the heated water to exit there to quickly. The inlet to the heater comes from the lower part of the block does'nt it? Have installed several that way and they have worked well, Rod.

throw the instruction sheet away, we plumb them so the heater pushes the warm water into the bottom of the block and take the cold water out of the top, warm water is less dense so that's the natural flow of water, with split heads a tank heater doesn't work great on an 830 or similar
