Often see the IH guys speculating about "what if" and "what would have been" in the IH tractor line if the amalgamation with Case had never happened. Of course the Magnum comes up since it is essentially an IH from the firewall to the drawbar.
I've always wondered what Case was developing to succeed the 94 series tractors. The 1896 and 2096 give a good indication with the CDC engine and the bigger 94 series had the 24-speed tranny. I expect any subsequent series would have the 505 CDC engine and the 24-speed transmission. One guy on another forum mentioned Case was developing a new cab with 2 doors - I don't really see the point to that.
In an earlier post today RGMartin makes mention of a "1496" with the CDC engine. From a video I have it sounds like a lot of the development work on the first Maxxums was done by the David Brown guys.
So - anybody have any knowledge of "what might have been" if IH hadn't come on the scene? Given the times back then it's possible Case ag tractors might have disappeared altogether. As it turned out the company now gives very little nod to the Case side of the CaseIH heritage anymore.
