In an earlier post today RGMartin makes mention of a "1496" with the CDC engine. From a video I have it sounds like a lot of the development work on the first Maxxums was done by the David Brown guys.

At casual glance, it looks like a 1494, Study the picture a bit and you see lots of changes.
DB was a gear company first, and still, makes sense they would have involvement in the Maxxum transmission. One of the guys over on the DB forum shared a fair bit of info on the project/himself being moved to Germany.
Another picture of a different but similar prototype:

| Rich, I was part of a group of case dealers that Attended meetings at the new Consolidated Diesel facilities in 1982? They spent some time telling us of their plans to repower all Case Ag. and Industrial equipment with the new CDC engines. They showed us pics., like the first you posted. I don't know if the 3-290 ever made it into any Case equipment. We were sure looking forward to the CDC powered DBs. The later Maxxums wern't exactly what we were expecting, and the electric over hyd trans, turned into a nightmare in the early years. The DB hydra-shift was pretty bullet proof. We were also really looking forward to seeing the 1690 engine disapear. That 6cyl engine should have been good with the multiple head design and all, but turned out to be the opposite. Loren |

| If one was to paint those tractors red from a distance they sure would look like a Maxxum, Rod. |
