OK I one more Question? I have the old 53 DC apart to replace rods in it now it is going back together. What I am wondering. Can I use new oil as in Shell Rotella in it or do I need to use a detergant or non detergent oil. Never can remember which one is in use today. I like Rotella as my old 425 cat used it Thanks Dale

Dad used straight 30 weight Rotella in all his tractors including 53 SC with no problem. For years our dealer got cases of 30 wt Rotella he called bid oil and Dad and I both used it in cars and pickups with no problems. After bulk dealer retired and changed hands new dealer wouldn't give us the same deal and I started using Havoline from Walmart in all my stuff.

I would use something like a straight 30 wt or 10-30 gas oil like havoline. Also depends on how you are going to use it.Case has a low ash 10 wt and 30 wt oil available.

I have always felt if you clean all of the sludge and grime out of the engine first, it would be fine (and maybe better) to switch to a detergent oil.

Used rotella in everything for more than 20 years now with no problems. My semi truck has 15,827 hours and 994,031 miles as I'm writing this and burns no oil in 20,000 miles. I use it in my 400 diesel and pickup and lawn equipment too. My pickup has 201,000 miles and doesn't use any oil yet.
