Hi guys I know my 222 is a bit small for this thread but hoping one of you can help me. I have a garden tractor that is fully hydro driven and the hydro up down. I think was plowing snow and with no warning everything except the motor stopped working. There was no noises I didn't blow a line and tank is full. The pump appears to be bolted to the motor in some sort of bell housing. What's in there a universal or a shear pin? I believe the pump is not turning any more. It has never been week or slow and was not before it stopped suddenly. Any ideas would be great .

Thanks Joe

the pump to motor coupling is a "love joy" style here is the break down, it may have lost/sheard the key in one of the couplers

Tom,gave you some ideas, but wondering if you have been over to the garden tractor site? They have service manuals available for alot of them, its a wonderful helpful site, and the guys over there are great.
Hope it can help you

I agree Dan I was just answering what he thought was the problem I too have all the SM's for them but from what he describes I have to think if it's not a drive/key issue the pump would have to fail to not have any implement lift or drive all at once cnt

Agree Tom,and you have been into these pumps,I havent, anyway would be good to get another member over at that site too

I would also guess the coupler first. A sudden catastrophic pump failure is unlikely. The bad part, Joe, is you will have to pull the engine in order to get at the coupler and the pump. It is not that big a job, if you have a decent place to work. However, I would not relish doing it in an unheated shop this time of year.

If this is an early 222 with the oil tank in the front, they have a screen vertically welded into the tank. If the screen breaks loose and ends up over the tank outlet it will shut off the oil flow to the pump, but you will usually notice a lack of power or speed and a cavitation howl first.

Thanks guys. I do have a heated shop just got other projects going and hate that this happened to my old girl. I use it for everything been a good tractor. I'll have to bring back to life asp.
