1370 jumps out of gear

I just got a '77 model 1370 and noticed when you get a load on it in 2nd and 3rd ranges it wants to jump out unless you hold it in. 1st and 4th are fine. Also noticed that park is out of it. Decent old tractor, dont seem to have a pile of hours on it. Any ideas where to start on this one?

Generally the cause is to much endplay in the gear stack on the pinion shaft. Another cause is damaged bushings and pinion shaft from the trans being operated at one time with very low oil level. Either way there is no good news. Once they start jumging out almost always the driven gears on the pinion shaft and shift forks need to be replaced and that means a complete teardown of the rearend. I have seen people shim up the detent spring in the shift fork or put a bungy cord on the lever to hold it in gear, but that will only work for a couple hrs till the forks wear off. Sorry there is no easy or cheap repair for that problem, Rod.
