Replacing Engine in 970 Case

I have a 1370 Case tractor with a bad transmission. Can i take the motor out of it and put it in the 970 without to many modifications? Has anyone tried?

It'll fit

Use the 970 pan, 1370 radiator, 970 flywheel. You have to do some fabricating for the air intake to get it under the hood. Mine has a late 1070 fitler housing. If your 504 is a later one with oilers you'll want to run close to 5 gal of oil. It will put the oil level right at the F in Full on the 970 dipstick. If you use the 13 tin oil pan you will lose the support the 970 pan provides.

That looks very nice, most people would think its factory equipment. Did the exhaust line up with the original muffler hole? Rod.

Did you have trouble with the oil pump gear hitting the pan when you put the cast pan on?
We had that problem with a 504 out of a 2670 that we put in an 1170. When we snugged it up we poped an ear off of the timing cover.
1370 may have a different oil pump. If you do not use cast pan side rails would be a good idea

Yes, It has a 1175/early 1370 muffler on it. The newer 13 muffler would sit high enough to clear the hood line if you put it on backwards but it looked too big on there. It was quieter though. We put a 451 bdt in a friends 970 2 or 3 years ago. That turned out well. He uses his pretty hard but hasn't tore anything up yet.

If you are putting some power out the PTO, or don't weight it down at low speed it may survive.

Weight it down to 15,000, put a set of 20.8-38 radials on it, and try to pull max loads at 3 mph and you are going to have problems.

we have 2 1175s with 2390 and 1570 front halves. ran them 4 years without problems. we dont pull any bigger equip. just faster and easier. i used whole front half for bigger radiator and heavier front end.
