1290 crank swap

Finished a rebuild on this engine using some .040” over pistons, but couldn’t get it to start. Started thinking low compression and did a little investigating. This tractor has the 195 engine, turns out I have pistons for the 219 (1/2” longer stroke on the 219 so these pistons are ¼” too short for the 195). Case can’t get oversise pistons for the 195, so we tossed around a few ideas, and unless someone here knows where to get some .040” over pistons for a 195, we’re going so swap the crank from our burned-out 1394’s 219. It looks like the dimensions are all the same but does anyone here know for sure?? Also, would there be any fuel pump issues going to a larger displacement? Just want to have an idea what I’m getting into before I tear into it. By the way, I work at an engine machine shop, so any machining and such is not an issue. Thanks!
P.S. I’m looking at rebuilding that 1394 (“Smokey”), if possible using the crank from this 1290. Anyone know how much power you can get from a naturally aspirated or turbo’d 195?

Sparex offers .040" pistons for the 4/49 engine. I just bought a set this summer. $55 or so each, very good quality, made in England. Same piston that late 990s used.

The parts guy at your Case dealer needs his butt kicked for selling your the wrong ones.

A 1394 crank will drop into your 1290 fine so long as you are sure you have the 4/55 pistons.

No issue with the fuel system.

As to power out of a 195, how fast do you want to run it? How many mods do you want to make? In stock form, you can get 60hp just by letting it run as fast as the 4/55s run.

The crank will fit fine. We have switched many 990s over and never had any trouble. We did one for my brother and it seems to run even cheaper than the 195 on fuel with the 990 pump. As far as pistons i think i have a real good set of used .040s in the back somewhere. I could look if you were interested in them. Thad

(quoted from post at 18:21:07 12/07/12) On the pistons you should be able to find new ones aftermarket. Thad

Must have both been typing at the same time. BTW, the drop box gear works perfect.
