First Case Tractor

This is my newest addition, a 1945 Case SC. Perfect sheet metal. Engine is free but not running. Mag has impulse not sure how hot it is. Rear rims are rusted out. SN tag is missing from dash but was able to get the stamped number off of the engine (SC4902***). Where can I get another tag made up? I understand the rear rims are the same as M or H Farmall or A or B Deere of the same time. Also would like original lights and light bracket. Anything else about these tractors I should know? (first of many questions)

Hi Zach. You have a very nice looking SC there. As for age , subtract 4 from the first two digits of the ser. no.49-4=45. 1945 yr. model.
I have spent the better part of 2 yrs. [part time] restoring our 1943 SC. It would of been a lot easier and cheaper to scrap ours and start with a diff. SC, but this was my grands SC & I grew up with it. You are rite about the rims from JD & Farmall. I cannot help you with the Tag plate.
Where are you located in Tx?. I am in mid OK. Contact me if intrested in chatting. clint.

Zack you have a mighty fine tractor. I would encourage you to pour a cup of coffee and go to the archives portion of this forum and type in SC and you will find hours of great articles and suggestions on restoring your tractor. You might want to tell us how you plan to use the SC and maybe we can give you some quick tips on where to start your restoration.

Zack, Jerry Sanders, J.I. Case Collectors has reproduction Serial tags for tractors and other Case equipment. He has the information in the Old Abe"s News, the publication of the Case Collectors.

Well, this is probably going to be a play toy for the most part. My plans right now are to get it running and get some rear rims and new tires all around. Other than that, I plan on leaving it in as found condition. I believe the paint(what's left of it) to be original. I can still see faint outlines of the old decals especially the "CASE" on the back of the seat. I love the old original barn find tractors. Also need all new gauges and probably carb kit and mag rebuild.

Zach,

I hope you get many hours of pleasure and fond memories from that SC. Welcome to the Case owner fraternity! Don

Don Livingston @ Austin, MN has new (reproduction) gauges for it. He often posts on this site. He's a good guy to deal with. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Zach, I get a lot of Case repair parts and odd items from John Saeli, Saeli Implements. I would bet John has them. He and his wife Chris are lovely people to work with and like all on this forum, very knowledgeable. His contacts are in the link below.

Zach,
Attaching a pic. of my 1945 SC.
Got it in boxes about 20 years ago, my first tractor ever. No. 3 piston was stuck.
I"ve restored most of it but its not perfect by any means.
Great tractor. I don"t work it much other than driving to and in parades.
The work clothes look is good too. My sons WC Allis is basically original and there is some moxy about the rough look.

Nice find! I have two SC's a 41 and a 48. You can find all kinds of used parts for Sc's on ebay.

Zach , I noticed the long steering rod on your SC has a little bend in it. That caught my eye , I have never seen a SC with a bent rod.I have been around our SC sense 1944 and am finishing up on the scond restore job now. The sheet metal really looks nice on your SC. Mine was in very ,very poor shape with rust. We are near Chandler, OK.
I see where you are in Tx. I mite have to take a drive someday. clint

are you kidding ,,a straight steering rod on a sc around these parts indicates a sc that has seen very little REAL action , i have one straiht perfect rod on a 44 sc ,, currently not running , but very little wear ..i have the rod slid thru a pipe on my 54,, had a 43 sc that came here with angle welded to the arm ,,the solid rod is way too easy to bend and easily straightened by an angry man ,. i recall Pop cuzn his sc and straightening the rod with his bare hands and vowing he was going to trade this useles sun-da-vich sc on a MASSEY FERGUSON ! , and he did.... that rod SHOULD HAD BEEN CHANGED IMMEDIATLY BY CASE TO A PIPE OF DC CALIBER ..The Sc caused my DAD toBoycottCASe for some 10yrs ,,. it took a 430 DEMONSTRATOR to bring Dad back in the fold ... Dad , insisted HE wanted that Particular Tractor ,and he bought it , he knew CASE routinely beefed up and stacked their deck to get the best out of their display tractors ,,. that was truely evident when all his uncles tried on the 430 diesel and claimed it had a hale of a lot more azz than their 430 diesels ,, and of course , the gasser430 was way behind in performance
