Hello all. In early spring i puchased a 62 model 830 for $1200. It had a good running diesel engine, but virtually no brakes.

After pulling the brake covers i found everything covered in grease and rust. The shafts themselves were severely worn. Now i have new disc, seals, and the shafts are at the machine shop. My question is how do i determine which balls i should use?

The splines were terribly worn. Do the make a sleeve to fix the splines? I was going to buy more shafts, but money wouldn't allow. I also have new dust covers. I need to order springs & balls.

I don't know of any way to repair the splines. Did the shop say how they do that? The repair sleeves are for the smooth surface where the seal rides. e-mail is open.

They must really be worn. I have seen some bad ones, but smooth them up so discs don't hang up and redi sleeves where the seals go and your ready to go. Doubt you'll ever wear them all the way thru.

on my 730 i had one that wore the splines so bad that the disc was spinning on the shaft. i cleaned it all up and bought a new disc. the new disc had better splines in it and held on the shaft but once it wears im pretty sure its going to spin someday too since the shaft is so badly worn

Once im done with the 830 i get to tear into my 430 diesel brakes. I think it just needs seals and disc though.
