I was given this tractor a 1940??? case I am looking for some way to tell what it is. I have been told a SC, DC, VAC,LA where can I find the ID plate to find out.

The data plates are located on either the instrument panel or on the toolbox. If you can post a picture, please do. Otherwise, you can do a search in the "Tractor Photos" page on this site and find a picture of a tractor that matches your tractor. You can also go to external_link to match your tractor.

I saw your picture on the "Help Identify" page and added a comment. Your tractor is a DC from the 1947-1951 time span. The ID tag is supposed to be on the instrument panel. If it is gone, then the serial number is stamped into the engine on the outer edge of the engine-to-bellhousing flange near the air cleaner. It can be hard to find and you may need to scrape some paint. The serial number will give you the year of the tractor if there hasn't been an engine swap.
