Measuring cylinder diameter surprise

Have the heads off the 711b to check out the internals, and do a valve job. Measured the cylinders with a bore gage and come up with less than 4.000. WTHeck? Reset the gage and measured again, same thing WTH?
Check the micrometers to be sure their not off. Dead on the money. Reset the gage and again and measure. Still way off. [b:dd39d32f5e]I didn't get the exact numbers, because I did not believe the gage, but it's like 3.950-3.975 there abouts.[/b:dd39d32f5e]

I know the gage and mics are as right as I can check, and a toolmaker for 28 yrs to boot. So I know after three measurments and gage checks, that I didn't blow it when I measured it.

Would sleeves and pistons from something else fit in the 251 block? Block # is correct for tractor and 251 cubes.

Ideas? Beside check again 4th time is a charm. I could swallow a couple thou difference on the readings but not 10 times that amount.

I guess Case shorted you by 6.10 cubic inchs. You really have a 244.92 cubic inch engine. But you know the rule. 3.95 rounds up to 4.00. 251 sounds and sells better than 243 learn something new everyday. gobble

(quoted from post at 20:31:10 11/13/12) The 251 Gas was 4", 267 Diesel is 4-1/8". Yours gas or diesel?

Gas. I only measured the one cylinder. I was so blown away I didn't even mess with the rest. It was getting late and I decided to get back at it this weekend since that's the only time I have to work on it.

I'm wondering if it wasn't possible that it through a rod (oil pan beat to crap) and the farmer put something in the one cylinder to get up and running. Hence my question about another case tractor size sleeve fitting in the 251 engine.

Will 267 sleeves and pistons work in a 251 with LP heads? The pistons com to the top of the bore, right?????

(quoted from post at 19:52:29 11/14/12) Yes, an aftermarket 4-1/8" (267) kit is available. Piston height would be the same as what you have now.

John whats the money for a set of sleeves with pistons that come to the top of the cyl.?

You can answer via my hd99fxr3 email addy that you have, if you don't want to publish pricing here.
