Triple Steiger

In 1979, I went to Fargo, ND, for a school on Steiger. They had this tractor sitting on the yard that they were playing with. I never seen one after that. They were also playing with hooking 2 Steigers with diff. hp in line and working them. The other picture is supposed to be your original Steiger that the Steiger boys built in the barn.

Farmfest '76 was held in Lake Crystal, Minnesota as the tribute to agriculture for the 200th. anniversary of the nation.

Steiger had an inline double articulated 3 engine tractor with 3 sets of driving wheels. I asked the rep if we would be able to see a field demonstration of the tractor. He said no, that it was a prototype and they were not going to take a chance on the tractor breaking down in front of all those people.

Don't know if there was ever any followup with the tractor.

Gene, there was a discussion about the Steiger triple here while back on another forum. According to the info there, it was 3 Cougar II's put together. Supposedly had major problems and Steiger dropped the project. Rumors have it that it was dismantled sometime in the late 80's.

The triple STEIGER never made it past the proto. STEIGER had an issue with it pulling evenly and it was eventually cut up.

The twin engine (ST650) was more successful, but the cost to build it along with better engine technology retired this tractor too!!

STEIGER holds patents on both tractors yet.

The barn built STEIGER now is on display at Bonazaville in Fargo.

THANKS for sharing, the photos are awesome!!!
