???? about the 70 series PS.

I was told by someone that there were problems with using the the PTO with the PS in reverse. Anyone know anything about that? Was thinking a 70 series would be a nice tractor to own. I like the cab and I would want to use it in the winter with the snow blower.

I think this question was asked and answered several months ago. What I remember was do not have the tractor in reverse if it is stationary and using the PTO. There is some sort of lubrication problem with it stopped and in reverse while using the PTO. If stopped put it in neutral.

Circuitry wise I don't think the lube is cut off in R but the planetary is being subjected to very high rpms with the drum being held by C4. Couple that up with PTO work such as a blower is done at rated rpm and you really have a possibility of excessive heat buildup. Lube pressure is 75 lbs regardless of the selector position. From a design standpoint it may have been better to have an oil spray right onto the planetary set but I have seen very few planetaries damaged by this operation. It happened rarely but is always good fodder for critics of the RPS.

Its not a problem having the pto engaged, it a problem with lack of lubrication. When a RPS is in reverse the RPS is spinning 4 times engine speed. The lube oil is thrown out of the planetery by centrifical force. You can run a snow blower you just need to stop and shift the RPS lever into first, let the planetary fill with oil again, and then start blowing snow again. They are not ideal on a snow blower but they will work if you are careful.
