Looking for some advice. I bought a Case 1070 this summer with about 8100 hours. When I changed the oil, I found some metal in the bottom of the drain pan. The largest piece was about 1/8"; it looks like bearing metal. I also think there is a slight knock coming from the back of the engine when warm and idling. I don't hear anything unusual under load, but the old girl makes quite a racket anyway, and I don't know what's normal. The tractor didn't come with any maintenance records.
The question is: Do I tear into the engine now, or wait until I have an indication of something really wrong.
If I do dig into the engine, can I get at all the bearings and remove the crankshaft with the engine in the frame?
Thanks,
Mitch
