splitting stands

I am toying with the idea of building an adjustable height splitting stands, with six inch cast wheels to give me the foward mobility once I separate motor from transmission on my 400.I will not have the luxury of an overhead hoist.Has anyone built a set ? Mabey a pic or two to share.

Chuck: Look at the holes on the sides of transmission and work down from there. I built a u shaped framework and put castors on the bottom of the "U" This will let you roll the trans/diff back from the motor frt end assembly. Now the front end I built two small "A" frames and welded a tube steel between and bolted in to the holes on the underneath of the nose . Now you must find a way the support the rear end of the engine. I used a steel frame work with brackets to bolt up thru the pan connecting holes. That was a mistake as you must put new gaskets at the rear of the pan after having it split. Mine leakeked badly and I had to remove pan and put new gaskets on.Sorry for the long post but I could not find any pics of splitting stand that would work with the 400,so, fabed my own.tom

I made one with two hand crank jacks four inch steel casters, one on each side . They are about three foot apart mounted together with six inch channel laying flat, two four inch channel pieces about ten inches long standing up on the six inch channel(two inches clearing oil pan on each side) and with two flat plates half inch thick on top with tree holes in both of them. Take out three bolts on each side of oil pan, bolt up,let down jacks and go.Built these about twenty years ago for a 830 that was the smalest one, 2390 was the largest.

few pictures of my stand- I hadthis one made from my father-in law's own design- worked for Case many many years- he made this one himself also- works on up to the 930's - maybe more- I know it works because we changed the cluth a few times on dad's tractors.

Thanks to all for the response on this subject.I felt that there must be others who did not have resourses and needed to have other options. Dan,could you give a little clarification on how the two pipes with the flatbar are mounted[verticle or horizontal]and were they mounted foward near the radiator or near the rear of the motor? I see where the tapped holes on the motor and the transmission could be utlized. Chuck

Chuck, Look up "Case LA tractor split" in this forum and you will see a simple rig that I did to split a Case LA. A piece of angle iron with casters welded to the bottom and nuts welded to the top. Plates with tubes on them bolted with the pan bolts to the block. All-threads with nuts and washers inside the tubes screwed into the nuts on the iron brings it all together. Then I connected it to the front axle with angle iron and a clamp to make it travel together. A jack under the tranny and split pins on the sides and it was ready to split; worked good.---Derrol in Texas---

I just use a chain falls, block the front axle and built a H type of bracket to bolt on the sides of the transmission with the side of the H coming down to with in a inch of the floor. This is in case it would slip off the jack. I have never had that happen. The cross member of the H close to the bottom of the H. Use of a floor jack under the cross member of the H bracket. Hard to see in photo but the H is in front of the creeper. I split my 1070 and other by my self.
