Jon R. Young 10-14-2012 12:51:29 50.41.79.115 Report to Moderator	I have a Case SC I have been tryin to get runnin. It has been sittin quite a few years. I have cleaned the carburetor, all the ports are clear and there is gas gettin to it. The manifold is clean, the points are gettin spark and I believe the plugs and wires are hooked up right, the firin order is 1,3,4,2. Does anybody have any ideas of what could be wrong with it? I have tryed to pull start it multiple times and it will run for a few seconds with startin fluid but then it will just die as soon as it runs out fluid [Reply]   [No Email]

Young, 10-14-2012 12:51:29   If the compression is way down it won't have enough intake suck to make the carb work. It will suck enough up to fire a little on ether. Went through that exasperation a year ago trying to get a low compressioned VAC running. If the compression is reasonably good, then there are fuel delivery problems somewhere. Seems like those Zenith carbs are real picky about a little dirt in the idle passages. Jim   [Reply]  [No Email]

Young, 10-14-2012 12:51:29   Jon, First take a compression test or a leak down test to check your cylinders. If OK then take a known good spark plug ,hose clamp and add a piece off wire an ground the other end. Now crank it over an see if you have spark at the plug. If you do then you know you are getting fire to the plug. So now pull the carb. and remove the jets an take some torch tip cleaners and run them through the jets and holes if possible. Take carb cleaner an shot through the ports.If you can get it to run long enough take a propane torch no flame and run it close to the intake gasket to see if you have a problem, if the engine gains speed you have a bad gasket. Young, 10-14-2012 12:51:29   Yes the needle is open 1 1/2 turns, the float is not stuck, and I am not sure about it gettin suction, I will have to check I will also take off the valve cover and see if anything is stuck or bent. If the tractor had set for an amount of time as you stated, chances are a valve or two were stuck. When you tirned it over by towing or what ever, you could have bent some push rods. Take the valve cover off and crank it over by hand, to check valve movement. If you have some valves stuck, you should not have much of a problem freeing them. The bent pushrods?? can sometimes be straightened, but they will fatigue in time, because you will never get them perfect. Don't give up on it so easily. Young, 10-14-2012 12:51:29   Make sure the float is not binding on the little axle in the Carb. Old zenith carbs are bad about that. Are you getting vacuum at the air intake on the Carb? Young, 10-14-2012 12:51:29   I have replaced the sediment bowl and gas is comin out in a steady stream of the fuel line. I believe that Somethin is tore up in the head I will probably just sell it. Young, 10-14-2012 12:51:29   You say that you cleaned the carb, but did you clean the fuel line and the sediment bowl thoroughly as well? Those can varnish up as well.
