Has anyone ever run across one of these? While I know a hydraulic loader would probably be more efficient and would definitely be much easier to find, I"ve been just dying to find one of these to use for moving rocks.

Looks like them old boys were doing it in the winter when the ground was frozen to avoid getting stuck. They were smart like that. Saved a lot of fooling around. As to the rarity of the tractor I have no idea.
