530 gets a little makeover

When my 530 is working I love it. Plenty of power for what I do handles great and very maneuverable. But unfortunately it is getting old, it needs tires, the rims don't match, all the gauges are junk, the 188 diesel engine smokes and blows litte bits of black tar into your face while you are useing it, the throw-out bearing growls pretty bad when the foot clutch is pushed in, everything leaks oil and needs topped up daily, the draftomatic has so much play in the bushings that it doesn’t really work anymore and all the pieces have been broken and welded together, the tranny gears are so worn that I’m afraid to run it in 2nd because it growls so bad. And worst of all if you are not super careful it loves to get stuck in reverse right in the middle of your job shutting you down till you pull the cover and put the shifter lever back into the rails. i started working on it a bit last month and got the generator chargeing, headlights working, rebuilt the injection pump and put in new injectors and gave it a brush paint job. all it did was make me relize what a money pit It could be. To fix all this would cost more than the price of a descent running 530. But they are not too common in these parts. I guess I will just keep suffering along. Just wanted to get that off my chest. LOL

I love to tackle jobs like that. Some day I want a 530 with com for my grand kids to learn to drive on.

Well my friend,
As in Alan Jackson's talking song, "We can fix it Sonney; all it takes is time and money": On a serious note, the shifting problem should be easily remidied by pulling the shifting lever and welding up the ball end of it a bit and filing it down to size. The cosmetics are what cost the big$$ in most Case's (pun intended) LOL.

wisht i could find that at the local auction . i love projects like that, i drag them out of the fence row or from behind the barn ,work on em , Love on Em, and after a while i have a nice tractor to work with and be proud of

i bought a farmall cub that was neglected for 350$. got it running changed all the fluids put new tires on it and traded it straight up for this case 530. the kid i bought if from had pretty much run it into the ground. he inherited it from his grandpa and had done no maintenance at all. till it wouldn't start because the battery terminals were super dirty. he said his grandpa bought it new and he could remember his grandpa replaceing the clutch and rebulding the engine when he was a kid. i showed him how to shifti the triple range into low and he was dumbfounded. he had no idea that it did that. sort of sad to know he is destroying my cub now but the case is a lot more usefull to me. i just keep pecking away at it a little at a time and it is getting nicer and nicer.

oh the tach dosent work but the hours are around 7700 so add a lot to that since they are known to fail.
