Want your thoughts on a 2290

Looking at a 1978 2290. It has a straight 8 speed transmission also has single engine oil filter with just over 7000 hours. New cab kit completely gone threw the entire air conditioning system. Went and looked at it and the day i went the dealer was closed for a funeral (long story) and they had it parked out behind shop with plate off the bottom of rearend key was in it but i couldn't here it run. So I called them back wanting to go look at it again. Salesman said they were having trouble with 3 point so they fixed it had to go into the valves or pump underneath. He also said they have two shop bills one for $1,440 and one for $4,400 They are asking 12,900 with band duals for it which i think is a little high. I asked if it had ever been overhauled salesman said he didn't think but it had a recently had a turbo installed and I could see the heads had to have been taken off recently. So just wondern if i should stay away and look for sumthing else or what else to look for on this one?

I'd like a 8 speed 20/22-90/94... but that sounds like twice as much as it is worth to me given what you said.

Dealer is in the same boat with the guy who dumped 5K into a 2K tractor. They still have a 2K tractor. Value is based on Excelent, good, fair and poor condition. So that tractor should be worth high book if.......the tin and paint are good, no excessive hours withiut proof of engine rebuild/new clutch, rubber 80% or better and all options like AC work. So the question is what's high book on it?

The $1440 bill sounds like its for the 3PT but whats the $4400 bill for?

For my money $12900 seems a little high but hey everything is getting high.

Is the dealer going to stand behind his work?

Our the tires New or at least 80%?

Personally i would gamble and let the tractor set for a few months and make an offer

The 2290's are great tractors and if well cared for will last along time, however I think that even though its recently had work done to it that 12000 is rather high, Dealer in Watertown SD had one set up the same way a couple months ago with only 3700 actual hours and they had that priced at 10900 and I think there was still room to deal at that price.

3 point work on a 90series makes me nervous if not done by a Case dealer. Know of a couple that the rear case broke because of a stop malfunction. And like has been said about twice too high. Would like a 2290 8 spd as they are about bulletproof!

Tractor is at a new holland dealer and is on the tractor house website. in Vermillion MN. about and 1hour and 1/2 drive for me.

Back tires are abut 50% i think and are firestone radials. duals are bout shot. Paint is pretty good for a tractor of that age. As far as i know the repairs stated were from the dealer after trade in. Saleman told me the first repair bill for 1440 was for cab kit and sum other stuff. second for 4000 sumthin was for threepoint repair and sum other stuff. My gues if all the air conditioning stuff was new that was part of the 1440 bill???? But what they could have done for 4000 sumthin to fix the three point seems a bit high.
