Joe Francano 09-25-2012 18:07:29 108.111.229.141 Report to Moderator	Hello, I have a 580ck 1971. Some have told me it is a "b" tractor with a backhoe attachment and others tell me it is the 580ck. The backhoe detaches anyway. I have a lot 2 acres in size. I clear the trees every few years and they grow back. I would like to dig up the stumps and put some road grindings down so nothing will grow back. I was thinking of some landscape felt before the grindings to stop root growth. What type of attachment would you put on my machine to cut up or tear out my tree roots? Thanks for any help. [Reply]   [No Email]

Proper tools and equipment can turn a long job into a short one. I have a different brand TLB. I learned about digging out stumps last year. Size will determine how hard the are to get out. My TLB is very robust and even impressed my son in law with an old case one. Cutting through roots can be tuff. I found it best to dig as close as possible to the stump. I start on one side and work around at least 3/4ths of the way 4-6 feet deep. Gotta think about when you are making your dirt piles. Then I try hooking the stump with the hoe bucket and getting the stump to move. If it moves even a little I just give it a tug, release and tug again. I;ve taken out some 2-3 diameter red oak stumps that way. It can be time consuming. A larger track hoe would have made short work of them. Joe Francano 09-25-2012 21:48:56 108.111.229.141 Report to Moderator	Re: Land clearing tree stumps in reply to oldtanker, 09-25-2012 19:24:46   root balls vary in size. most trees grow to 40' before I cut them. stumps are mostly 1' above flush cut. time is a tricky question. due to land clearing laws, it is kind of a gray area due to a permit that was issued for the land and me removing dirt piled there. I do not have a machine on the lot. There was a large basin built for water runoff. I am in the process of fencing it in to keep homeless people off of the lot. I will cut into the lot this winter some time and see where it goes from there. I have a couple friends with dozers. I will look into a root rake.   [Reply]  [No Email]

We only cut to get the ones out of the wy that we want out. If I'm going to remove the stumps I cut em about 5' high. They come out much better with the hoe.
