Got a chance to pic up a decent little VAC not sure on year but..... Never had one just thought I would get some thoughts on it. All the tin is there and straight, front tires=junk, rears however someone put it on steel.... Motor seems to be stuck for now, It was a running unit a few years ago. Have not looked at it real close but for $200.00 I don't think I can go wrong. Let me know what your thoughts are? |

Well picked it up today.....The owner said he believes the steel is off a ford??? He put them on there but did have the original rims/tires, tires are junk but one rim is great other is ???? see how it looks after I take the rubber off. Ended up snagging it for $180.00. It also has the hydro pump and valve for the attachment lift not sure if that was on all of the "VA" series but its got it. Its missing the starter someone stole it, so gonna need to source one. Then of course gaskets, media blasting, primer/paint, decals, exct. exct. then off to the field to rake hay next year lol.....

Would like to have the rear steel for my VAC, but according to my parts book, the ones you have on do not appear to be CASE steel. Is there any numbers or markings on there anywhere.?

An interesting looking VAC with the rear steel. Case did have steel for the VAC s during WW II. Never saw one on it tho. Are those CASE wheels ? $200 sounds like a good deal , go for it. clint

Not saying to do this but you didn't even give what the scrap yard would give you for it. I would first off make sure it does not have water in the cylinders and if dry FILL them with ATF and let it sit a couple weeks. If you find you need parts I have 2 VAC parts tractors and have 2 sizes of rims 32 I think and 38 inch rims

I may have some of if not all of that . My e-mail is always open on here. Of course I would have to loo to be sure what I do or do not have on hand. I do know in fact I have all those parts but those parts are on a running VAI I have also but I'd sell it

New painted rims for a VAC are around $230 each plus shipping from Steiner's, and you have to put the stop blocks on yourself. I don't know of a source for galvanized rims. I hear that you can buy the rims and then send them away to be galvanized if you have the connections. A good used rim with a less than prime tire is a good deal at around $100 each. I got a set of rough but solid VAC rims with bad tires on them for $20 each plus the gas to pick them up in a place about 2-hours away in January. You can expect a usable bare rim in less than prime shape (pitting + dinged outer rim, but solid) to go for around $50-$75 each. These prices are accurate for my area in mid-Michigan, and I have been looking around and comparing prices. I bought 2 rims for a VAC and 3 rims for an SC in the last year. Also, I change all of my tires myelf with just a hammer, a bead breaker rod and a set of spoons. If you pay someone to do this for you then you can expect to pay around $125 per tire to take one off and that much more to put one on. But you need to realize that it takes around 2 hours of hard work to change one of these tires with the tools that I have. This is if you are good at it and if everything goes well. Also, it is hard work and takes muscle and coordination. If the ones on ebay had good tires with good tread on them, then $250 each is a good price. Good used tires are worth $250 each.

Yes I agree at that price you can't go wrong. You have a pretty decent looking tractor to work with.

At worst you will be able to make some money on it selling parts if it is too bad to fix. I got one for $125 a few years ago but it had a cracked block, junk tires and no fenders and was rusted stuck. Zach

You're right, you can't go wrong at $200. If it was close to me I'd buy it! It will scrap for more than that!
