I found a 1953 Case VAC tractor for sale yesterday. It has a few problems; carb needs rebuilding,no brake on right side and lift does not go up or down. Carb and brake are no problem, but I'm not familiar with hydraulic lift. How much should I pay for this tractor with the problems it has? Thanks in advance for your input. Pete |

If it runs and the tires are good it would be in the $1000-1500 range here. A carb can have a problem and yet the engine still run or it can have a problem and then not run. If it does not run then cut those numbers in half since you can not be sure about other problems. As for the lift depends on which one it has. I have a 46 VAC that has what I would call an upside down 3 point on it since the center link does the lifting and the lower arms just follow the other parts of the machine

The tractor looks good, has good tires and ran well with the choke about halfway out. The lift is in the "up" position and I could not get it to move down. I don't know anything about hydraulics, so I'd have to pay to get it fixed. Carb and brake I can handle.I'd like to buy the tractor but don't want to get in too deep if the lift is going to be very expensive to fix. Thanks, Pete

Could be as simple as a stuck control valve or some such thing. Most of the time a lift stuck up has less problems then one that does not go up. Also unless the lift has a good load on it that could be all that is wrong and it needs more weight to make it drop since it is gravity down power up

Just like all of EM. Close to Scrap iron price as you can. Good tires can be worth more than the tractor and that can allow you to go a little higher. round here good VAC??-- $600 maybe get a mower with it too.Saw a pristine one original paint, go for $850.
