Looking at an 801-B, tractor is in decent shape with the usual problems. Wanting to know what i'm looking at getting into on fixing the trans, current problem is can only go into 3 or 4th. That is all I have right now, I'm wonder if it is a trans problem or if it would more likely be a case-o-matic problem. If it is the case-o-matic what kind of ballpark would i be looking at for worst case scenerio.

The tractor runs well, but the pump loses prime if it sets for a week or two, rotary pump. The experience with these pumps so far has been, its going to need a rebuild and it is going to cost about $1000-1200. Question, if i'm going to spend that money on the the pump, could an inline pump be put on there instead?

Sounds good guys, thanks for the tips. I will research what I would be getting into on rebuilding the transmission, and probably shoot the guy an offer. Thanks again.

The tranny is bullet-proof. Something needs attention with the shifter mechanism on top.

You might not have to rebuild the tranny, it might be a simple problem like a pin out of place or something.

I agree w/ Jim, the problem is with the shifter mechanism in the 8sp. Nothing to do w/ the converter. As for the fuel problem, sounds like fuel is leaking through the transfer pump. I would guess that the crankcase oil is being diluted w/ diesel. Very easy & cheap fix. The seals are less than $10.00 & easy to replace. The transfer pump is mounted to the side of the big pump & easily removed for servicing.

i am surprized no one gave you advice , yet , if you only have 3rd or 4th , that is a standard manual shifter problem that has nothin to do with the c-o-m clutch ,in theory a 730 dry clutch would bolt to the front of the standard tranny , you may not understand the shifter , it is upstairs /downstairs double neutral you can learn alot from the archives , there are 15 yrs worth of wisdom ,,, also ,, if the fuel pump loses prim e it is possible that fuel will get in the oil , ,, i am told this is a simple fix that can be done with the pump in place, but have not taken time to repair , my 800 also0 loses prime and leaks fuel into the oil for yrs . i simply turn off the fuel tank valve when not running ,,
