haha pretty much. Wish I had the project pictures from the guy who did it. This was to be sent to scrap, but the guy was a mad machinist and swapped in a spare 4-71 he had from a scrapped road grader. He did about as good a job as you could really, the adapters worked out so the hood and front end lined up like original.

It is more than likely an LA. It got a "JIMMY" upgrade. Not that uncommon in Ls- LAs. A bit more uncommon for a 500, which had a great 6cyl diesel engin in it from the factory. it's a LA/ Jimmy, with 500 decals.

1954 500 with a 4-71 GM. I think the LA's could only hold a 3-71. I had seen the pictures of when this thing started its second lease on life. There wasn't much left of it.

Actually a 471 works better in a LA, On the 371 fan far from radiator that a special fan shroud is needed. A guy showed me how he put in his 371 and had wished he had waited for a 471. May all be how they are installed also.

Well that is cool, I will definitely have to keep my eye out for an LA with a 4-71. I have only ever seen 3-71's in them.

LOL...You know Case made two painted white 500's with a bit of chrome here and there, called the QUEEN. And called so on the build card. Yours must be the JOKER. Yep yep ah-huh. Yep.
It takes a 6 cyl hood to make length, using a 4 -71. Fits like factory on my LA-L [loud].
