This guy calls me (Pat) and said he has a Case LA that leaks water into the crankcase and hasn't been running for a few years....(I thought this will be great) bring it out. He shows up with this. Short story, his grandpa bought it new in 1943, from the Case dealer in Bloomer WI. It was delivered to his farm in Cadott WI whitch is now the site of Chippewa Valley Music Fests (country/rock fest). They found a pic last year when the tractor was delivered. He said his grandpa was to cheap to get the electric start and pto. Being a war era tractor I thought he was lucky to get a tractor at all......is this correct? (How much was this tractor new?) Pat said his Grandpa bought it to run the threasher and a sawmill and took very good care of it, and it shows. There were 7 kids in the family, one of the boys ended up with it. Pat bugged his uncle over the years about the LA and the last time he asked he said......Oh I sold that to a guy in the local bar one night. The uncle died, and after some local farm paper ads turned up nothing Pat was driving north of the farm 70 miles and spotted a La behind a shed. Stopped in and asked what was up with it... the owner said....I bought that from a guy in a bar in Cadott. |

| May be this is a little off topic to your story but do you know what is causing the water into the crankcase? I ask this because after years of sitting with no problems I pulled our CC4 out to start it and there was prestone in the crankcase. |

| Was it purchased from Stelter Bros Feed Store? Or was there someone before them? Thanks, Don |

| Rod, During the war LAs were really hard to get. My Dad told me that he and Grandpa got two in by rail to Amsterdam NY, and during the time they unloaded them and got them home, a 40 mile treck, there was a line of buyers following them home. There were also several other LAs for other dealers in the area on the rail cars too. At that time the LAs were rashioned and the blackmarket was active. CASE Co. told it's dealers that if a LA showed up somewhere other than locally, that the dealer that the tractor was allowed to receive showed up somewere else say in KS. rather than NY., the dealer would loose his franchise. Dad told me that he was approached by a fellow who he didn't know and offered him full list price, plus, for both of the LAs. He turned him down. One went on our family farm, and the other went to a local farmer. Loren. |

| | I'm surprised it has rubber tires for being a 43 model. Looks like a good tractor. I'm betting the sleeve O-rings are leaking water. In 94 I could have had a good running 48 LA for $400. I should have grabbed it! |

| Very nice. Looks like it has a place for a starter and if it does, that would be an easy fix. The water leak would be a little harder. Great find and in great shape. The PTO is not too hard to put in. ---Derrol in Texas--- |
