I have an old case 530 Ag tractor with a 188 diesel (early 70’s); I traded a farmall cub for it. It was in pretty rough shape but I got some tires that hold air and a battery and re-wired it. Fabed up some 3 point hitch parts to get that working again, gave it a brush paint job and have been using it here and there. Now I plan to start using it on a regular basis and have decided I can’t keep putting up with way it runs. It starts right up and pulls hard (really hard compared to my 530 backhoe with 188 diesel) but smokes diesel smoke all the time, especially under load. The injector lines leak where they go into the injectors, especially #4. It actually squirts out. Makes a big mess all over the engine. So yesterday I drained the tank and pulled the filters and injector lines. I am going to try to clean and set the pressure on the injectors with a little homemade pump set up. I successfully did this on some IH midget injectors that took shims. These look easier because they have a pressure adjusting screw on top. I plan on putting some new seals into the injector pump with hopes that it will run cleaner. I am wondering if somebody “turned up the pump” on it because of the way it runs rich. This will be my first time working on an injector pump. But I have a lot of them that need serviced so I want to learn to do it for future use. So my question is Does anyone have a good way to fix the leaky fittings where the lines meet the injectors? Does any one have any tips on how to service these components? I am placing an order to us diesel on Friday, should I buy any special tools? Pump is a DBGFCC 431-27A

this was my solution to the bad return line fittings, i twisted the whole header till it was pointing up and then cut the flares off. then i put 1/8" npt-3/16 hose barbs in the injectors and popped a hose in between them. hopefully it stands up to the exaust heat.

picked up 4 new injector nozzles and set the pressure at 2250, rebuilt the pump and put it all together, replaced the fuel filters and primed the supply side of the system. had my freind pull me down the road with his truck for about 400 yards it started up. it was smokeing like a choo choo train and the return header is leaking all over the engine so i pulled it right back into the garage. the return header is some kind of weird fittings with little rubber grommets in them that are all dry and hard. i made some new ones with a hole punch and some 1/4" sheet rubber and then one stripped out. then i tried to remover the fitting from the injector and it twisted off. i don't know what i am going to do with it now. drill out the injector and try to tap it with 1/8" pipe tap then maybe rig something into it that i can braze to the return header. so in summery pretty much everything is worse than when i started. fittings are twisted off, tractor won't start, fuel system leaks everywhere and i am feeling pretty disgusted with the whole mess.

That sucks,I hate when things I do go that way.I was really hoping you where going to have step by step pictorial for the rest of us.I have never worked on injection systems before because I'm kind of scared of things I don't really understand.Good luck and I hope you get it fixed.

G is mechanical governor, F is flange mount, V is vertical (4020), C is clockwise rotation, CC is counterclockwise(viewed from drive end), 4 is # of outlets(feeding cylinders), 31 is .310" plunger diameter. there are .250,.270,.290,.310,.330,.350,.370,.390,.450. 5 is specification

tore it back apart today and that shaft was off one gear tooth, of course the 1 thing i screwed up was the thing that EVERYTHING had to come apart to get to lol. oh well next one will go better.
