Hello everyone, the hydraulics on my 401 seem to work alright,(maybe a little weak) until it warms up, then they hardly work at all (can"t pick my roundbale gate up). What do I need to fix this? How readily available are the parts? Whats the round about cost if I have a machine shop repair it? Thanks, Jordan |

Jordan: The releaf pressure for eagle hitch tractors is 1175 - 1225 PSI. The releaf valve is under the capped nut in front of the pump arms. There is a port on the top side of the pump, below the pump arms to test the pressure. Or someone on this board rigged up a coupler with reducers and a gauge in the end for testing, this would connect into the tractor coupler. There was early and late pressure releaf differences and an updated kit you could get. If you get too high of pressure the pump heads can split where the threads for the hose swivels thread in. This made me say a lot of three and four letter words. I like to take the filter out and clean it, it's located below and to the right of the PTO, behind the cast cover with the 3 bolts. While your in there you can clean any sludge out and check the screen on the other tube. The book calls for type A transmission fluid. I use Dextron, but most people are using what there other tractors use. About a year ago I know all the gaskets were still available. If you've got the time, fix it yourself, it's cheaper that way. Good luck!!

usually the Torrington bearings in the pump wear out and allow the gears to hog out the pump center section which was over $300 several years ago,the end cover and main body also get worn and need to be machined smooth

The releif valve, the one for the three point hydraulics (I know they run off the same pump) or is there a seperate one for the remotes? Thanks again

J.C. Marlaeu has a good used pump, & he might chime in. 1st thing to do is to check the relief valve. I took one apart once that had parts missing and once i got it repaired, hyd's worked ok. Make sure the oil level is up to correct level. I always add 1 qt. of 85W140 to 3 qts of the thin oil to give it some body.
