I have a pin hole leak in my Hydraulic line back to my backhoe. I need to removed the line which is connected with a flare fitting. The flare fitting is loose on the threads but is solid to the line and the both spin togeather when you try to unscrew the flare fitting. Any tricks on breaking the hydraulic line free of the flare fitting? Thanks. |

| Thanks everyone for your help. The location that the flare fitting was at went to and elbow and then another flare fitting. Turns out the other flare fitting was no problem at all! So I took that one off and was able to remove a swivel fitting on the other end without even having to fool with the stuck one. Thanks again for everyones help! |

| I think you will find that the flare fittings collect stuff in the "hex" end of the fitting. Try soaking it down with penetrating oil...use an air compressor to blow the oil down in there. Heating the hex of the nut and a bit below while keeping the line cooler will allow expansion of the nut and yield a bit of clearance. slow back and forth motion will help loosen rust and dirt. |

| Mel,
Thank you for your insight. Not sure where you want me to heat though. The nut/flare fitting are one long piece. After the nut section of the fitting the fitting tapers down towards the end. At the end the hydraulic line comes out of the end. I would think that the location that the fitting is stuck on the hydraulic line is where the flare is inside. If I dont heat that where do I heat? Thanks! |

| Heat the nut, but try to protect the crimp area, maybe soak a rag up with water and wrap around the fitting crimp. Have had to do this many times as rust takes over on old stuff.
