I'm asking for those models because I have a Case (IH) 1896, and am having trouble getting in touch with someone who has a good idea of my issue. My remotes are not doing their job well at all. I have to use the inside and outside remote lever to raise almost any implement. When using my Koyker 500 loader, have to use both levers to raise a bale of hay, and forget tilting it up. Is has gotten progressively worse over last few months. 3 point will lift a house in a hurry, but the remotes have gotten ill. It will lift as good as new when both levers are pulled back, which tells me the pump should be putting out enough pressure. A dealer mechanic told me to pull the valve stack off the side of the machine where the hydraulic lever cable connect and there is a hole in back behind an allen screw, that a magnet will pull a signal check ball out and there is probably some junk back there that needs cleaned out. What say you? I can turn the adjustment knobs on top of the stack and change the speed of the loader without a load, but not the lifting ability, and when you do get a load on, you can let it down easily, it goes down fairly fast about a foot then locks up. Have to work the lever again, another foot, jars to a stop. Sometimes does this without a load, but always does it with one. Someone help me out before I spend a bunch of needless money!

Tell you what, far as the stopping when lowering the loader or whatever. Try reversing the hoses so you have to move lever opposite way to lower. The check valve in the aux valve only works one way to hold a load up so if you can lower fast with hoses reversed you will know the problem is in the check valve built into the aux valve. I'm going a little bit on old memory here but as I picture that valve in my mind, you cannot lower your loader with the engine shut off as it requires pressure from opposite side to release the check valve. I have some drawings somewhere from service training but not at my finger tips. Been a long time since I worked on one of those tractors so cannot tell you just how much work it is to take valve apart or even if you have to take the valve off the tractor to do it. If it was an IH tractor I could tell you as most work is done with the valve left on tractor.

Pete, I'll check on that. You are correct, cannot lower with tractor off.

4 hoses. Lift and tilt. Been doing this for over 20 years, not a hobby. A year ago, this loader, or any implement attached worked correctly. Now they don't. Its in the system, not in my head.

I don't have a lot of experience with 90 series hydraulics but I am wondering if you have the hoses hooked up correctly. The lowering problem sounds like it could be a coupling problem.

Not operator error on the hose end. Loader Hoses, implement hoses, many hookups over the past several months. Also new couplers on the tractor side. Problem didnt change with new couplers

You have a signal check valve problem like the mechanic said. It is probably with the valve you are not hooked up to and by using it at the same time the pump compensator then gets a signal. Far as locking up when lowering, it is either your quick coupler or the check valve that holds load up in the valve. Case has a rather unique check valve incorporated in the aux valve and it is also similar on the magnum tractors. I can't tell you exactly how to take those valve apart anymore, I would have to refer to the service manual.

I would say that you need the valves on on the side of the tractor taken apart and cleaned and put back together, there are a few O rings and check balls as you described that make up the serviceable parts and the o rings will harden over the years and can cause issues, also you can occasionally get a piece of dirt, etc that will cause one of the checkballs to get hung up in its bore and not do its job correctly. If your 3pt is working correctly as you say that would be the first place and also one of the cheapest to check out.

How bad of a job is this? I'm good with engine rebuilds, etc. but how many small parts are going to come flying out at me when I pull the stack off the side?

when you go to pull the valves off the side you really have no small parts to worry about, there are a few very thin metal washers between the individual valves in the stack that you will need to make sure you keep track of, the bolts that hold the valves together run thru the center of these, other than that nothing is going to fall off or fly out when you go to take them off the tractor.

Thanks, Jeremy, appreciate it. Sometime in the next couple days I'm going to try to pull the stack.
