Got this tractor and the tag says 311b . It's triple range but nothing is right . It has a bent hand clutch like the 430 and it has 3 bolt starter .but does not have safety starter in gear shift.the tractor has 311b 6122188 engine has 261S02515. Anyone have any idles what's going on with this tractor?

According to the serial number it's a 59 311b, but it must be a late-in-the-year unit, after the engine change to the 3 bolt starter, if that's the right tag for it. I may be wrong, but I don't think that engine will fit the roundnose you were looking for an engine for.(if that's what you had in mind)

I know it will not fit the 300 round nose, yes that was the plan . I bought it as a 311 b off eBay hoping to use the engine in my 300. Looks as if someone used all there spare parts to put this tractor together . What can you tell me about the number on the engine ? What's up with the S in the number ?

Dunno about the number. Where is it located? Is it on a tag on the engine? My 60 model 440H has a tag that has 188G stamped on it, as well as a number, I think, and my parts 67 model 440 has 148G on it's tag. Both tags are on the right hand side of the engine. It sounds like you have a 430. Do you have a means of uploading a pic? It sure would help. If you can't upload a pic, just post a link to the ebay page where you got it from, if it hasn't expired.(I know the auction is ended, but the webpage will exist for some time after it ends)

180882426902 eBay . The number is about 2 inches above the stater close to the back of the block on a rased patch . The 300 RN has the rased patch on the block but no number. The 430 has a tag close to the oil pan held on with rivets .

Does the tractor have reverse on the shifter? Are you certain it's a triple-range, and not a dual-range? My '58 310B has the bent-back shuttle shift lever, but the shuttle shift lever on my '60 440H is straight. The hand clutch lever on my '58 311b is straight, as well. (by straight, I mean it's got only one bend, low down, at the side of the casing). It's unlikely you have a shuttle-shift tractor (310B), as the one in the pics has a pto, which I've yet to see on an industrial version. Most likely you have a very late 1959 model 311b, but it was made after they went to the 3-hole starter. I have a motor that will fit the roundnose, but to be honest, I'm trying to save it until I can find one that needs a motor myself. It's off my Dad's old 311b, and he freshed it up with a new crank/pistons rings and liners. Not sure about the cam and stuff, but he died before he could get it back together. Not to bore you with a long story, it was about 3 years after his death before I managed to get the bulk of the tractor. It was missing the head/radiator and some other stuff. The engine had surface rusted inside the cylinders, so I bought another complete engine and swapped it out. It will need taken apart and cleaned up, at the very least. I'm still reluctant to part with it, as I've got the two '58 models. Would you be interested in a '60 model 440 with dual-range and shuttle? It's got a 188 gas in it. I'd like to have a round-nose.

Oh, yeah, it's a loader/backhoe model, but someone took the hoe off the back of it. Has a model 21 loader on it.

I may have a line on a 300 that is rough, but it ran. It has an old repair in the block behind the carb, if you're interested. I'd have to go see the guy to see if he still has it. It may take a couple of days before I can hunt him up.
