I"ve been slowly nitpicking away @ the little problems with the case 930 ck I picked up in april. My last hurdle to overcome is the steering. My internet searches have revealed the case 930 and all ather ck's are somewhat notorious for poor steering systems. Mine has the power steering integrated into the steering box mounted in the center of the tractor in the lower cast iron nose piece. Almost any movement of the steering wheel from center @ low speeds or stationary causes the belt to squeal, regardless of engine speed. Closer inspection revealed belt misalignment, which i repaired and a worn belt which i replaced. Both inner tie rod ends were worn so i bushed them and changed to new bolts as they were worn also. I"m still having the same issue with the squeling belt. The tractor does have a loader and bucket on it. The problem is present with an empty bucket. I"m readty for some suggestions on this one. Thanks Southside

I"ve checked the spindles for binding in the axle and they are good, the fluid level is up, tried it with and without the filter in the pump, belts are tight. What method is everyone using to measure the pulleys for wear?

Dealer told me to use High Tran when I got my 830 and it locked up the valve in the pump. I use Dextron.

Belt, pulleys, grease front end, make sure the front spindles turn freely.

I know this will sound a little over simple but make sure your power steering pump is full of oil.

Change the filter in the pump. You could have a plugged filter causing part of your problems

I now use High Tran Ultra in mine.

Some use type A transmission fluid

Jack up the front end, and make sure the spindles rotate free. They have very fine needle bearings in them, and if the cages get worn the needles can get croked in the bore and act like a sprague clutch, causing very hard steering. I have the front end off a 930 now that I can just barely turn with a long bar. I don't think the former owner thought much of greese guns either.

my 930 is refered to as sqeek.BUT it Has a BIG OL 8ft DOZER BLADE HANGING ON THE FRONT . I keep seeing jobs i need to do with it , so the blade stays ready for service ..we keep everything well greased and use belt dressing on the belt ,, that helps a lot ,I will swap to a cogged belt if this 930 gets more frequent use ,But for now it worx ok other than that annoying SQEEK,the JD and IHC, Ollie,,ALLIS Folx LOVE to SNIKER about that sqeek soundin off ...! This is another Early Problem that CASE IGNORED ... CASE REALLY SHOULD HAD Double Belted those Steering pumps ,CLEARLY SOMETHING quickly SHOULD HAD BEEN DONE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM , Case made good Tractors ,, the Motors were the Best thing about them,, Unfotunatly the Upper Level CLAUSEN CURSE born in the 30s, of Arrogant Mismanagement and problem denial continued to erode Case's Market share ,, even though Clausen was long gone by the 1960s ,, hisc" I AM KING " poor management style continued til CASE was swallowed by Tenneco

I would agree with dkase try the pulleys. I just replaced the belt on my 930 with a cog style belt witch I learned from a post by adirondack case guy a couple of weeks ago thanks acg by the way that tractor is like a totally new tractor. This tractor has no loader but now I can turn it lock to lock at an idle sitting still with no squeal and its real smooth. Fought that sucker for years, I tried tightening it and so forth and just thought thats the way it is. The old belt didnt look too bad but was glossy and pretty skinny compared to the new one.

Had several year's ago. Good Tractor's. They were basically like that when new. Especially when not moving or at a low idle. When at medium throttle or moving mine worked fine. A loader will make it a lot worse, just have to keep it revved up a little.

Most of them old pulleys are warn out and need replacing. A V-belt will not pull much in a U shaped pulley.
