A common site in Wisconsin this time of year. Chopping hay for my brother. Got a bunch cut down for tommorow. Fun to listen to Case engines, they seem to like it when the conditions get tuff. Thought I would share. |

| I used to love doing that kind of work but now I have allergies so bad that I cant hardly get out of the house during certain times of the year. |

| Alright then, Yea 1st crop alfalfa. It is thin in spots and like DCase said it got so nice in March and it looked really nice but then got cold and hurt some of it. My brother had them come and fertilize the hay ground we already chopped.....thats not cheap, but short hay is worst I guess. |

| How did your first cutting produce? Ours looked really nice in late March. April 10 + 11 we had a hard frost which set it back 3 weeks and then the weevils moved in with a vengence. It looks like a 40% crop here in Eastern SD. |

| "Scent-n-Sounds",are 700 and NH hayliner 69. 2nd crop alfafa (scent) and the (sound) of that 700 at PTO speed, when plunger would push that big wadd of hay in. Ahhhhhh I can still hear it. rummm --rummm the sweet sound of power. Oh that 700 sounded great during fall plowing too and oh yeah early morning in wis 2:00 was nice to stand next to the manfold warm the hands and well you know! God Bless |

| | I agree. My 1170 is a sweet running engine under load and also idles quietly. I remember a few years back in the neighbor's field across the road after sundown, a tractor under load with lights on had started at the far end of the field and was coming towards my place. The exhaust noise got closer and louder and sounded wore out. I remember thinking "that engine is due for an overhaul". When he turned at the end with the lights away from my face, I saw it was a NEW 8000 series John Deere. When nature calls on a cold windy day, it is easy on the ears to cozy up to the 1170 engine idling half speed. A friend at church ask me to run his nearly new 8310 Deere to help out. When this old man's bladder asked for attention, cozyng up to the Deere engine idling half speed was not an option. WOW what an ear pearcing experience to stand close to and idling 8000 series Deere. |

| I'm jealous, never run a chopper but love the fresh hay smell. Got a nice tractor and day to be out listening to a sweet running engine. Rod. |

| Hard to beat the sound of an 11 when it's on the gov. and pushing a healthy haze. It's also nice to have that reserve torque when that Gehl chopper chokes on a wad of hay. LorenPS looks like you got a copilot. Do you let him drive? |

| Loren, the co pilot loves to drive. He asks if it is time for him to drive yet? lol. His name is Case and will be 3 this month. When the 11's tach pulls to 1900-2000 in heavy hay it is a nice diesel haze and turbo whissel, it just eats it. |
