Case 580B Backhoe

Hey guys. I just bought this Case Backhoe. Previous owner says its a 580B. Does this look right? Needs engine work as the engine was run low on oil. Is this the Case 188d engine? I know it is a diesel. Anything to look for on these? I've already bought it but won't be able to pick it up till Saturday. This is my first backhoe so I'm new to backhoes. I have heard people talk about a 580 Construction King... Whats the difference? Thanks, Morgan

Morgan, yes that is a 580B, tractor loader and power train are the same as a 580CK, tin work, operators platform dry type air cleaner were among some of the updated"B" features, the backhoe was all new with its overcenter boom design a first in the industry and is still used today and was copyied by almost every other brand out there, we sold hundreds of the "CK" and "B" units back in the day they were/are great machines when redoing the motor make sure it is done right by some one who knows their stuff and she will last a life time for you, glad you saved her keep us posted of your progress cnt

It is supposed to have new injectors and a new starter on it before it was run out of oil. He said he was going up a steep hill and it was low on oil and with the oil pickup in the front it wasn't picking the oil up and it started knocking. He shut it off and filled it up with oil and drove it to the top of the hill and parked it 3 years ago. It will be a couple months before I get around to repairing the engine but I'll definitely keep everyone posted. I have heard good things about these engines and we have a Case 450B track loader with a 207 engine in it that is a really good running and starting engine. Are these engines in the same family? Any parts interchange? I will keep everyone posted as this project progresses. Morgan
