DC Shutters

one of the DCs'that came wandering up my drive lookin for a home needed the radiator cleaned ,, AND, BAD !,, came with shutters ,, Dad Come by While we puttin radiator back on , Told Us .."Just as well Hang them up in the shop .. I sprayed with oil and that is where they are now ...

I've never seen a D series with the shutters operational. I would really like to have the hardware to make a set of shutters work. I'm restoring a dual fuel DH and would like to get it complete to factory configuration. I have a shutter set but don't have the hardware (linkage, cranks and whatnot) to finish that part. If you're not going to use them maybe we can work something out?

email is open.

Thanks!

If you don't have a thermostat in the tractor they will be helpful, otherwise it's probably a waste of time.

I have a working set of shutters on my DO, they work well.

Good luck.

Nope I don't have a thermostat (didn't know you could put one in)

I am not sure of the hardware as I think the control is frozen up but i should be able to get it to work I hope........

How would a guy put a thermostat in?

There should be a groove in the upper radiator neck for the thermostat. Unless you have a clean coolant system you may have trouble with the thermostat plugging. This is why I went with the shutters on mine. A decent flush might have fixed the problem, but I didn't want to open up a bunch of new/old leaks.

If you decide to apply heat to the shutter hand crank, be careful. It is made of brass, NOT steel, and melts quickly. Don't ask me how I know...

We have 5 Dcs and none of them have shutters and none of them have a thermostat. I did have one with the thermostate but it was broke and just threw it away. They still run fine with our without shutters or a thermostate. Matter of fact when yo are plowing or working them hard they stay a lot cooler. If you are having trouble in the winter with them warming up take a feed sack or a trash bag and cover up the grill they will warm up and run better if they are cold natured.
