Case 430 Draft-o- matic (1967) Hydraulics

My 430 hydraulics have slowed down a little. Some noise like hissing coming from the 3 point lift control valve and some fluid leaking.

Back reservoir near front of seat (1-1/2" plug with dip stick) has a lot of fluid. It is above the notch on the dipstick. Is that notch the minimum level of fluid?

Front reservoir on in front of shift levers and below fuel tank had less fluid but above mark on dipstick. The loader runs from this reservoir. It is running slow too. The front fluid was much clearer than the rear and was replaced recently when the loader was installed.

A few questions:

Are the two reservoirs connected and do they act together or totally separate?
If the pump is getting bad is it difficult to rebuild or replace?
Could the control valve need a seal or something and if so is it difficult to get parts?
Is there a hidden filter anywhere or common place that things may plug up?

Thanks,

Brian

The two reservoirs are separate, and should contain different oils. The transmission calls for 80-90 gear lube, and the front calls for Hytran or the equivalent.

If the transmission oil level is increasing and your hydraulic reservoir level is decreasing the rockshaft piston needs to be rebuilt. You will need items 12, 13 & 46 below. You will also need a new gasket (item 10) to reseal the top of the transmission.

There draft-o-matic valve has a number of o-rings and two seals (items 3 below). It is not an overly complicated job to replace the o-rings and seals, but you will need to be very careful when dis-assembling and re-assembling the valve to ensure all the little pieces get back in the right place in the correct order. In other words its a great job for some quiet time with no distractions.

The hydraulic filter is depicted as item 42 below. You will also need the o-ring (item 41). The filter is held in place by a cover with 4 bolts on the right side of the tractor. The return line from the draft-o-matic valve is plumbed into that cover. Uncouple the line, and remove the 4 bolts and the spring loaded filter should cause the cover to come off easily. I you haven't replaced that filter, that would be a very good place to start . Someone else will need to weigh in on the pump (item 50 below) itself. I've never had to replace a pump. My guess is a rebuilt pump can be had from Case.
