Bosch P Pump Questions

I was just working land to plant some beans this morning and my Case 2870 died. She started loosing power like it was starving for fuel and then finally died. The injection pump is not putting out any fuel to the injectors. Oil pressure, water temp, exhaust temps were all good, seemed to be operating normally up to that point.

The lift pump (which is mounted on the side of the IP) is definitely working, there is lots of fuel at the banjo fitting going into the the IP when I turn her over. Filters and strainer are all good. No sign of water in fuel, I drain the water traps in the tanks and the primary fuel filter regularly.

Before I remove the injection pump and cart it off to the fuel injection shop is there anything simple to try?

Thanks,
JP.

Remove the small return line on injection pump an there should be some fuel returning to tank if transfer pump is making 15---20 psi.If transfer pump is working you should be able to feel pulses on rubber line between pump an final filter. Other thing you might try is remove cap on front of pump an make sure rack is loose----cant imagine that would stick if it was running for you anyway.st be really sure pump is in fact getting fuel at proper pressure

First if you do remove pump make sure yyou have it timed on no 1 cylinder with piston at 30 or so degrees btdc(not sure of no)an with scribe marks on pump lined up.That will save you removing -hood-valve cover an getting no 1 cylinder at above setting when reinstalling pump. When you said it lost power i assume it didnt smoke indicating lack of fuel.Assume it didnt show air bubbles in filters indicating a leak in line from tank. Again make sure there are no restrictions in feed line to pump.Lot fuel has to feed those 256 horses

Thanks for the advice Chess. I tried everything but there was absolutely no fuel to the injectors and lots at the IP supply port.

I scribed the drive linkages and took the pump to the injection shop. They said probably the governor came apart or something in the fuel rack linkage. I sure hope so, that was a bit of a job getting that out and injection shop time does not come cheap!

I'll let you know how it goes.
