The hand clutch is almost gone on the 310 roundnose. I am going to split the tractor and was hoping for any experienced recommendations. Done several regular clutch projects but this will be a first. Parts still available? Any tips or be aware info? I have a good parts book but am waiting on the 300 series service manual.

Appreciate the help.

Have you been making adjustments to the hand clutch? My service manual is up at my brother's shop. I know that you have to take the cover off of the triple range and then reach clear to the front of the casing to adjust it. I can remember dad doing that when I was a kid. There have been some threads on here about adjusting it. Probably 6 months ago or more.

Just got the tractor not long ago Randy. I will take a look once the manual gets here. Tractor is getting a working restoration so I will get a chance to look over lots of mechanicals. Thanks for the tip.

You have it right. Remove the triple range or shuttle cover (the one directly below the steering wheel). The clutch assembly has 2-pin adjusting mechanism. Determine which pin is engaged and pull it out (rearward) while turning the assembly. You should hear the second pin click (engage). To tighten the shaft should turn counter clockwise, which means the pins are moving clockwise. It will only take a few adjustments (clicks) to make substantial adjustment. When adjusted properly the hand clutch should require 45-60 lbs of pressure at the handle end of the clutch lever to engage the clutch. There should be a noticable snap when the clutch assembly goes over center and engages.

if you have tried to adjust wet clutch under triple range cover, like i did , it could simply be the dry clutch , thought the same as you about my 430 that is eqiupped the same .. did tractor split and took apart clutch flywheel and there was hardly nuthin in there ,, got all parts reconditioned for $100 AT KENTUCKY CLUTCH, INCLUDING THROWOUT BEARING ..they ship too ..

Here's some pic's of the hand clutch, follow Joe's instructions. You need not drain the oil. The pins are spring loaded. The pull per pin increment at 40 lbs increases about 3 lb and is progressive each farther increment so don't get to ranty starting out. Use similar scale up under the lever knob shifting in clutch-in direction to measure over center snap.

On my '56 310 the shifter has to be engaged in drive for the cover to lift clear. Your's may differ.
