Case 400 Super Diesel w/ Eagle Hitch

How do you get that "Eagle Hitch" to attach and hold onto a rotory mower? The pins are 7/8ths I think.
Thanks in advance,
M. Linsley

without going out to check, I don't think the Eagle Hitch is designed to grab a 7/8" diameter pin. Your probably going to have to change out tne lift pins on your rotary. my .02 worth gobble

How are the Eagle claws. If badly warn, rebuild kits are available. You may have to weld up the claw portion of the arms also. Call John Saeli for repair parts @ 315-585-9826 The 7/8" pin size is not the issue. Is the arm spacing OK, I've seen hitch arms bent. Someone could have also modified the EH to accept a CatII narrow hitch bar. with 1-1/8" pins. We did that to hook JTA Case plows on older EH tractors.

thr eagle hith was made for cat 1 equipment their was a kit back in the day to make them take cat II pins put some a few of the 830's we sold don't think they were listed in the parts book was in a servise bulletin/new products sheet I belive some time around 65-66 I think
been a while CNT

First of all I would like to thank all you who responded to this post, your help is greatly appreciated. I believe I attached a photo to this thread... I hope. My problem is there is nothing keeping the attachment (mower) from migrating out of the "hooks". Is there a latch system or a trick to keep the pins from creeping forward out of the hitch system? The mower is heavy and some what difficult to get hoohed back up in the field.

Thanks Again,
M. Linsley

sounds like someone has robbed the two main parts needed to latch your mower in,later I will post you a photo of what you are suppose to have,( if no does it before me) also the eagle hitch was latchable usally from the tractor seat a operator's manual would help you a lot, they are still available from Case as well as several other sources hope this helps and if your latches are missing I recommend checking with a local A&I parts dealer they have the latch parts and are priced better than case CNT

try www.aiproducts.com they sell lots of aftermarket parts web should show you dealers in your area most of the repair/tractor dealers around here have A&I or Hy-Capacity for aftermarket parts I am one also but am not trying get business just trying to get you some help(with parts) for these old girls CNT

Pictures didn't attach but I believe what you are saying, if pin OD isn't an issue, is that the arms slide off the pick up pins. Assuming the eagle hitch you have is complete with sliding locks and latches there is also something else. Case brand implements had lifting hitch pins with heads on them so a set of worn and sloppy arms couldn't shift sideways enough to come off the pin as the head on the pin stopped it. Non-Case implements had slick pins to adapt to conventional (Ferguson) ball joint arms. These pins had holes in them to accept lynch pinssto keep the ball joint draft arms, and loose Eagle hitch arms from sliding off. If you don't have lynch pins for your hitch pins just go down to your local farm supply store and pick some up. I believe this may be your problem from the description you give.

I think John Saeli sells Eagle Hitch parts (external_link.com). Once they are latched, they will not come off. If you have trouble with the width between implement pins, flip one of the pins around to the inside.

Here is what your Eagle Claw should look like. What you have there is an improvised fix after many hours of using. If you don't want to spend the money and time to restore the EH claws, just put linch pins in the ends of the 7/8" pins on your cutter.
The first pic shows an Eagle claw in the open position ready to accept a 7/8" pin on a CAT I 3pt. The second shows the Claw closed after the pin would be locked in. again you must have the linch pin inserter in your 7/8" pin no different than on any other make tractor.

Thanks for the pictures, I understand the operation now. I found the locks and latches on Worthington's website but the hinge pins and the springs I still can't find. I'll be posting more on this forum now that I found leaky injector(s)and major blow-by in the cylinders. I have a lot of work ahead of me but it will be worth it.
Thanks again for all the help
