Looked at an 1190 today. Serial number indicated it was as 83 model. Just wanted to hear any good and bad about them. Appeared to be in pretty good physical shape. Wasn't able to hear it run, battery was "liberated" for grandsons pick-up. Any particular problems to look out for? Live PTO and hydraulics? Looked it up on another web site, but not very many details. Thanks Mark.

The Good.. It says Case on it. The bad... the rest of the tractor. The tractor is really a David Brown. I have had a number of guys tell me about buying them new and had good luck with them. But Case replaced the 770-870 with the Browns and to say the least it was a huge step backwards.

My dad bought an 1190 new in 1982.The hour meter broke,but I would guess it's got 5-6000 hrs on it.I replaced the first part last year, a fuel pump that cost less than $100.I farmed with a Case 430,530 and 630 all triple range and very good tractors but I liked the 1190 better.Nick

The 1190 has a 2 stage clutch giving it a live pto,it also has live hydraulics.
As far as likes/dislikes;
I like the ceramic coated muffler-the original is still on the tracctor
The tilt up hood is nice for maintenance
The seat has held up well-the cushins need replaced.
The transmisson has a nice selection of speeds with 12 forward and 4 rev.
The transmission is bad about popping out of reverse under a heavy load-if you shift to the lowest range and lay your leg against the shifter it will not pop out.This has not gotten worse over the years and doesnt bother me.
It will rarely pop out of 3rd range.
Dad had warranty work on these problems and it did not help.
The 3-point is well built-but the stabilizing arms are rigid and have caused both draft arms to break where the stabilizer pin bolts to the arm.I double veed the arms and welded them with eutectic 680 rod and have not had anymore trouble.I have also broke several of the above pins.Part of this because of using a 6 foot bushog brand bushog in very heavy growth.
I used the tractor in tobacco and had to widen it out to carry the 2 row transplanter and 2 row cultivator.Each year After cultivating was finished it had to be pulled back in.The design of the front end makes it a lot easier than most to change width
Overall I have been very pleased with the tractor.
If you are wanting a true Case tractor in this size, I believe a late model 430-530 or 470-570 would be hard to beat.
I have always wanted to find a low hour 570 diesel.
The 4-5 and 630's I have had were early models and were very good tractors but the late models have better power steering,independent pto and usually have more hydraulic circuts for a loader.
I have no experience with loaders on the 1190,but I am sure if you post someone will reply that does. Nick
