Case 830 Power Steering Gear Support

I'm a bit confused here and could use a little help. I have play in the steering shaft from the gear box toward the steering column. After investigating and removing generator and lower radiator hose I find that the front U-joint which I suspected the problem is fine. But the entire gear housing shifts (rotates left to right) as I move the steering shaft. So the gear housing is loose in it's position where it rests.
What I suspected was that there was suppose to be a large collar ring under the bottom side of the gear housing that is suppose to bolt to the under side of the front of the tractor. There are 6 holes around the gear housing under there. In looking at the Case IH parts search page, I come up with what is called a ring -steering gear support part # A33869. It has 6 bolt holes in it also. This ring, as far as I can tell is not on my tractor. Am I on the right track here, or have I misunderstood something about the parts breakdown? The ring I refer to is in a box in the breakdown all by itself, not showing how it attaches. Any help will be appreciated. I went out and took a picture of it and the photo shows the bolt holes around the housing and also appears to be a ring where the part in question would go.

I am not sure yet why your housing is moving, but I think the ring
you are talking about is used for support with a narrow front end.

Have you any idea where the fasteners should be located on the housing? I cannot see anywhere that the housing is bolted or stabilized. I sure hope someone can post up what the heck is going on with this. Thanks for your reply, and yes this is a wide front tractor.

I have been searching the archives and came up with this post which I have copied and will paste.

Here's what the book says: On axle models, disconnect center steering arm from spindle. On all models, drain steering gear housing and disconnect steering shaft front u-joint. [u:931ccca8ed]Remove attaching bolts and lift steering gear from support housing. [/u:931ccca8ed]Just that simple, no doubt.

I'm sure not seeing any attaching bolts.

You are missing the 6 5/8-11 bolts that secure the steering motor to the bolster housing. they should be installed to prevent the steering motor from rotating... Gene

Gene is absolutely correct. the bolts screw up into the ps unit to hold it in place in the front end casting. mEl

Thank you so much Gene!!! I knew there would be someone that would have the answer for me. You say 6 5/8 -11 bolts, what length are these? Ok, so I found the length of the bolts on the case site, but there is one that is 1/4" longer than the other 5, can you tell me where the longer bolt is installed please. I wonder (guess we all do at times) why the heck none of the bolts are there in the first place. mEl, thank you for chiming in also. I will have to go to fansenel today and get these, I am assuming that they would be G5 bolts.
Thanks again guys!!!!

Thanks to the help I received from Gene I have 5 of the 6 bolts in, the 6th (in the very front ) does not have enough clearance to get it in due to the sway attachment of the wide front end. Glad it was noticed before some severe damage was done, sure are some experienced tractor folk on here. Thanks again Gene!
