930 Injector pump problem

I have a Case 930 (pre-comfort king) that I have a pump problem with. It has the Bosch inline pump.. I had the pump and injectors both done about 5 years ago (maybe 100 hours run time since rebuild).. a while back I mistakenly got some bio-fuel, and it separated and went "rotten" in my tank and lines.

I have drained the system, cleaned all that I can clean on my own, changed filters, etc. I refilled the tank and added a biocide. Have bled the filters. Have fuel to the injection pump.. Getting next to nothing out of the pump. Some "cylinders" are pumping.. very little.. but spitting a little out. One is pumping nothing as far as I can see.

My IT manual (came with the tractor when purchased) talks how to bleed the pump.. but the illustration looks nothing like what I have on my tractor.

I was also told the rack could be stuck and I can free that myself.. but don't remember how I was told to do it.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

Brad

Brad on the front end of the pump there is a bolt that an 11/16 wrench would fit and right below that there is a cap that a 3/4 wrench fits take that off and there is a machine screw that screws into the fuel rack on my 1030 it was stuck real bad, i had to put a pair of vise grips on that screw and tap in and out with a hammer gently and spray lots of penetrating oil around it, it should loosen up i had to do this probably 200 times and finaly after a while it was easy enough that i could do it by hand. Make sure that it is real free and moves in and out with very slight pressure because if it doesn't the tractor could run wide open and not shut off without pushing the rack back in. Get it free and leave the cap off and start the tractor at low idle and let run for a while if it will and once the oil gets moving around it should be fine.

Mine has a round cap with 2 flats.. that one?? It has a allen head bolt under the cap.

how much should it move? I can move it just a little bit (1/4" would be my guess) Does it matter how I have the throttle set when I do this? (wide open or shut off, or somewhere in between?)

I'm just nervous, I don't want to hurt the pump, as I'm hoping it is just gummed up a bit and won't have to do yet another pump rebuild (as it was none too cheap last time)

Brad thats the right cap the rack and screw will stick out when measured from the front of the pump about 7/8 to 15/16 of an inch out. When you take the cap off with the throttle part way open the rack should come out about a 1/4 of an inch past the cap. When you push it back in it should pop back out on its own if its freed up enough when it is at half to full throttle. Give me a call anytime if you want and i"ll try to help you out.

Ben,

I may give you a shout over the weekend. I probably won't get a chance to play now until Saturday.

What I do know however it that wide open, idling, or off position the screw is roughly flush with the threads the cap screws on to, so sounds like it is stuck closed then? (or partially closed perhaps??)
