I went to change me hydraulic filter on my 1070 and when I got it out I realized that the relief valve wasn't there. I guess the previous owner threw it away. Should i be concerned? should i buy a replacement? meL I was hoping you could help!

You absolutely must replace that cold oil relief cartridge or the oil just flows through the empty hole unfiltered and goes straight to the RPS valve and spool sticking and powershift damage is inevitable. They are available or were when I last got one. mEl

Did I miss something? I thought the question was about a missing "relief valve" not a missing filter. Anyway, I have a 1070 -late model- and hate case' system. I have had the brake master cylinder
block rebuilt 5 times in about 200 hours, by a case dealer. I change filters (transmission/hydraulic and power steering/brake system),every 100 hours or so--. The powershift transmission does not impress my either. And I'm a CASE man through and through!

YOU better unscrew the cast bottom off both filter housings. the spring loaded relief valves often fell into the drain pail unoticed, As mEl stated, all the debris in the trans. resivoir can travel throughout the hyd, system if not present. Don't blame the tractor until you know all the facts.

Gary, you maybe ought to get a parts diagram of the filter housing breakdown then you will understand! The cold oil bypass relief fits into the end of the filter and the spring sits in it. As previously stated if it is gone the hole in the filter is wide open for anything that comes off the transmission floor and can get through the strainer on the pump intake. Those valves you are constantly repairing go for years and years without service, sounds like you better find why its being contaminated, thats what sticks the boost spools and similar problems, yes, you are missing something, maybe your bypass reliefs are missing or or the filters are not up to par or you ought to dump the oil and replace it also. mEl

Wow!! Thanks for the heads up.. I will get right on that when I change the filters in my annual spring ritual! I think that part is under the filter as you explain,(sprind and such) however I didn't know what it did, nor what it was called. But if something IS missing, I will get it replaced. I also think my dad had a parts manual for it in the shed, so I will look for that as well!
