Cummings diesel engine in a Case tractor?

NO Cummings, but there was a Cummins in the 96 series tractors as well as the skid loaders, backhoes, and articulated loaders among other machines.

i never saw any of those but i did see an la with a 549 IH gas engine with a belt driven govener-- 6 plow tractor -- what a beast--if it didnt pull it -- it would tear it apart-- went to the scrap yard 25 yrs. ago believe me it was shot-rolled over and dead

Yes Ive had a couple 1896s and a 2096 that were white and black. They were decaled as a Case not a Case IH. So they were built before the buy out of IH. But ive seen way more of them as red and black Case IHs. So basicly i say they were a Case right??? Anyone else ever seen the white and black ones? Thad

Case built at least one L with a four cylinder Cummins, I believe it was a H series engine. At one time I had that engine.
I sold the Cummins along with a L tractor with electric starter to a man in Montana. He intented to restore the L with the Cummins like the original one was built.

Actually you are only half correct. That particular engine is not a Cummins but rather a CDC. Consolidated Diesel Corporation. A joint venture between Case and Cummins. Probably the most widely used and stout medium duty diesel engine ever made. My opinion anyways but pretty hard to say otherwise.

I toured the Case factory in the Winter of 84-85 and they were assembling 1896 and 2096 tractors with the CDC (case/Cummins) engines. The thing I remember is the tour guide telling us about the buyout and how they were now going to give Deere a run for their money. That worked out well. LOL The neatest thing was the OLD Abe decal in the steering wheel.

Just got an '87 2294 which is a CIH and the neighbor had an '84 3294 which was a Case, both have the old abe in the center of the wheel. Kinda looks outta place at first but after a bit it is really kinda neat how they keep the heritage alive. Been told that Abe is somewhere on all the tractors with case heritage.

theres some white 94/96 tractors atround here, look alot better than those farmall red ones, when I get a Magnum bought with faded red paint it's going to get re- painted white!

Gene, I'm not so sure about that. Stonehouse and Brumbaugh indicate that the CDC was developed to replace the Case diesels and Scania was a temporary fix during CDC development.

I don't think Scania was ever used as a replacement. They were always used in the "8" models of the 4wd's. The 2870, 4890, 4894, and a V8 Scania in the 4994.

I didn't mean to make it sound as if the Scania's were replacements. I just don't think they were ever involved with Case, Cummins, or CDC other than being contracted to supply those monsterous beasts for the Largest 4wd's.

Brad, I did not check back through the posts but I hope we didn't forget that Case uses the large Cummins in the big four wheel line. It is on the CaseIH tractor and is now and has been for many years in the Case tent since Case purchased Steiger and it became a red tractor. This discussion for the purposes it is for is getting kinda humorous when you look at the motives involved and the various tractors involved. JMHO. mEl
