David Brown 1210 diesel alternator question

Getting ready to start troubleshooting a David Brown 1210 diesel charging issue (tractor is not mine). The tractor drains the battery if it sits for a few days. I am thinking the voltage regulator may be stuck causing this.
Assuming my assumption is correct that the alternator is bad: Is the factory Lucas alternator worth trying to have it rebuilt. Or, should I opt for the Delco type conversion that is so popular? Thanks in advance for all opinions

Lucas....... the man who invented darkness....... All jokes aside, Lucas makes some really good really durable electrical componets but they sure didnt put them on Case DB's. The most common drain I've run into is a from a damaged thermostart wire, usually caused by the key switch hanging between 'heat' and 'on' after starting overheating the wire in the wiring bundle.

I always try to keep the OEM alternators. They arent too bad to get rebuilt and if you can get the faults in the system fixed they usually last pretty well. But, a one wire conversion is quick and easy.

I would say you are going in the right direction by checking out the voltage regulator first. Put in a new one and see what happens. Mine did that one time and a regulator fixed it. You might be better off in the long run by changing it over to delco stuff. Those Lucas parts can be rather expensive.
