Hi, I am wondering if you could please help me out or if you are unable to maybe direct me to some one who might be able to get me this information. I have a 1956 case 400 series model 410 serial #8086853, it is a 4 cyl gas with the regular front axle, my problem is this, the thermostat got stuck in the tractor , it overheated and ended up blowing the head gasket, there is now anti freeze mixed into the engine oil, so I got a head gasket set from the case dealer but they were unable to give me the torque specs and torque sequence for this tractor. It appears to be a bit different compared to the tractors I have seen before as the head is actually two seperate heads of two cylinders each, kind of like a motorcycle with two seperate pots. I have not taken it apart yet and am wondering if there is anything else I should watch for while I am taking it apart, would a valve grind be a good idea at this time? If you could help me with the torque specs/sequence it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ken.

First of all, I would go buy a service manual for it, the I&T ones or Jen-sales are usually fine. Second of all, if you blew a head gasket, I would almost bet that you have a warped head so I would take them in and get them rebuilt, if anything you will get a good like new set of fresh heads! It also gives you an advantage to remove carbon build up from the pistons too. I DO NOT LIKE TO SUPPORT EPAY, but there is one on there for $10. Here's a link!

02sd, I talked to the service manager today at the CNH dealer, and he said do all the studs at 50 ft. lbs.. Start in the center of the head, and work to the outside in a pattern similair to tightening a wheel. He said there is a sequence, but if you do this, it will be fine. Also said to torque them down with both manifolds on the heads. After you get the 50 ft.lbs., retorque to 100ft.lbs.
