Case 730 Problem

The other day I was hauling gravel with my 730. I was in 4th on low side and went to shift into 1st when my shift lever stuck. I seemed to be in neutral but could not move shift lever. Hi-low lever works fine. I was able to tow it to the shop to be easier to work on.

Today I went to remove the shifter but couldn't get the deck off to I cut a spot to where I could get the shifter lever out. I still can't seem to get the shifting lever in position to where it will work. I took bar and was able to shift it into a gear. (thinking it was 3rd or 4th by the way the starter rocked the tractor. Visibility is very poor. Is there something out of line or did something break. Am I going to have to pull the top cover to find more out or am I not getting the shifting fork in correct spot??? It is dual range transmission and is a 68 model.

On another matter I see the trany oil is milky again. Would water be getting in around hi-low lever.

first milky oil yes if the boots are loose or split
it will get water in trans the shift problem sounds
like the tip of shift lever is worn and let it get
between two gears try ling up ,if you haven't
already, the sift rail groves where the shifter goes
see if it goes to neutral try that or call me Tom

Thanks for the reply Tom. The end of shift lever looks like little or no wear on it. I was surprised! I am unable see see much just looking in through the shift lever hole. Maybe I'll have to try to stand on my head and look, lol. Am in the middle of replacing the clutch, transmission bearing, rear main and will attempt the axle seals on my W6. Once it's done I will pave to pull the 730 and do some maintenance on it, brakes , throttle control, transmission flush again, choke cable. Sounds like I should have started this 2 months ago.

I struggled with water in the hyd. oil of my 930 for years. New shift boots and I would still get a full gallon of water in a summer. I found the seal on the draft control sensitivity lever so hard and loose the water was just running in. Check the control lever while you are at it. DK

Don't forget condensation too. If you live in a wet climate you will get water build up due to condensation. My 630 stays in a closed building, not an open front tractor shed, and I can get a table spoon plus water out every 3 months or so so you acn see what several years without draining water out will do.
